Emotional intelligence (EQ) is a fairly recent addition to our vocabulary and has gained popularity in the last 30 years. Our brains have been evolving for the last 200+ million years and EQ is an attempt at describing why intelligence (IQ) is not a primary factor in individual success. Our IQ is definitely an important factor but IQ ignores behaviour, character and desire and our superpowers. What would be our superpowers? We reproduce slowly, cannot survive adverse environments, we are definitely not the strongest or fastest but... we can imagine the future and collaborate in groups to achieve that future. Although we all have our own superpowers the big three would be: Vision, Communication and Adaptability. Emotional intelligence is fundamentally a learned skill that starts with understanding yourself, seeing what you want and why you want it and then communicating that vision to others who can help. Our emotions and instincts often conspire to resist our choices and Emotional Intelligence can be viewed as the ability to achieve our desires despite our fears.
