Employees can have life issues that pose a challenge to coming to work and while most employers offer some support, often referred to as employee assistance programs (EAP) These programs are often designed to help with an identifiable short term problem. EAP can be less effective for handling complex absence issues that involve habitual absences for different or recurring issues. In these case the employee may lack the tools, knowledge or competence to handle these issues without some help.
